Experience
With over 35 years in Architectural Design, in his career, Kym has specialised in Residential Home Design ranging from Small Lot Housing to Waterfront Custom Homes. He brings vast experience, dedication & most of all passion, to delivering the best outcomes for all clients based on their needs and budget.
Award Winning
Kym has achieved over 30 Regional & State QMBA Awards for his projects.
He has worked with Aura Property & Associated companies for over 5 years, delivering outstanding homes for both owner-occupiers and investors.
Heritage Architect Influence
Having studied Architecture at Queensland University of Technology, Kym spent his first 10 years out in the field with Heritage Architect Bruce Buchanan in Ipswich, Qld. At this time being a small practice, Kym was mentored in every aspect of the building process. Bruce’s passion for good design was a great influence on Kym, and focusing on Heritage Architecture gave him solid grounding in our history and in understanding correct space, proportions and scale. These elements are pivotal in modern day architecture and design.
Historic Projects
Notable projects during this time were ‘The Brisbane Polo Club’ Naldham House, Brisbane – winner of the RAIA National Presidents Award 1991, Old Government Printery, Brisbane – RAIA State Conservation Award 1990, Port Office Building, Brisbane, Ipswich Grammar Schools, Claremont, Ipswich – RAIA State Civic Design Award 1986, one of the oldest sandstone buildings in Qld and Gooloowan, Ipswich – part restoration –featured on the television program ‘I own Australia’s Best Home’.
Coastal History
Kym moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1993 where he worked with local Architect Ken Down. He was heavily involved in developing several Surf Club Renovations with the advent of pokie machines. He designed several large residential custom homes, and was site Architect for large commercial projects such as the Sunshine Plaza $30 million River walk and Cinema upgrades in Maroochydore and Apartment developments on Hamilton Island, North Queensland.
One of the most challenging projects was being Site Architect of the Reconstruction and Memorial for the Childers Backpacker Hostel which had been tragically burnt down, claiming 15 young lives. In dealing with government bodies at Local, State, Federal and International Level including over 20 separate external consultants, Kym gained exceptional skills in dealing with the delicate transformation of the historic building while respecting the victims’ families.
Working with Coastal Building Firms
In 2004, Kym moved to local building company PJ Burns and during his time with them his custom- designed and standard homes won over 30 Regional and State building Awards. Kym believes that his passion for good design will continue to deliver exceptional results which will maximise investments now and in the future, and for the owner occupier, deliver their dream home.
Over the last 5 years Kym has continued success with the team at Aura Property in delivering innovative, practical homes on the Sunshine Coast & in turn securing fantastic investments for our clients.
